I did a coasteering adventure few weeks ago and it was the funnest and most exciting thing ever! Although it looked a bit dangerous when I saw videos online prior to the session, on the day Adam helped me feel confident and safe. He went over every step carefully and prepared us for jumping by gradually increasing heights. Every activity was optional and the atmosphere was great. I honestly can’t wait to do it again!

Booked an end of summer family (including 2 young adults) coasteering trip. Adam was a great guide, with just the right level of challenge to push everyone to the edge of their comfort zone and have a great time. It was fantastic exploring the coastline off of Portknockie, a great way to get a different view of the coast. Would highly recommend, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be back for paddleboarding or surfing.

What is coasteering?

Down arrow

Coasteering is a unique and adventurous way to immerse yourself and be guided through the intertidal zone, allowing you to explore and reach areas you would otherwise be unable to access. Coasteering incorporates wild swimming, low level traversing/climbing, and deep-water cliff jumps.

We have carefully designed our routes to cater for all, from beginner adventures to seasoned thrill-seekers. All challenges are optional, but fun and adventure are guaranteed!

Do I have to do the jumps?

Down arrow

No not at all. You don’t have to do any of the jumps if you don’t want to. We always start small and work our way up.

Our coasteering sessions are about exploring and journeying along the coastline, enjoying the unique perspective and experience. Jumping is a part of the adventure but not the main element, and all jumps are optional.

You will always be given the option to challenge yourself, whether that is a small jump or large but in no way will you be pressured into doing something you are uncomfortable with.

Is coasteering safe?

Down arrow

Yes, Coasteering is very safe. It is however an adventurous activity and as such allows for a certain amount of risk. Your guide will always dynamically assess the risk benefit of the activity and adjust for the conditions and participants ability / level of confidence. Your safety is our absolute priority and activities will never run in unsafe conditions.

Our coasteering guides are all qualified lifeguards and National Coasteering Charter trained Coasteer guides who are assessed by an external technical expert at our venue to the highest standard. We are fully insured by Activities Industry Mutual and licensed by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.

What do I need to bring?

Down arrow

Cosy 5mm thick winter wetsuits, buoyancy aids, and helmets are included. We have a wide range of wetsuits to cater for all shapes and sizes. Please bring a pair of trainers that you don't mind getting wet (closed toe footwear that is secure to the foot, not Crocs or wetsuit shoes), and if you arrive with swimwear on under your clothes it will be easier to get changed into our wetsuits.

It's also advisable to bring sunscreen, water, and a towel. And your sense of adventure!

I've never been coasteering before, can I still do it?

Down arrow

Yes. 99% of the people that join us have no prior coasteering experience.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Down arrow

We ask that everybody taking part in our coasteering adventures can swim 50 metres unaided. This means swimming two lengths of a standard length swimming pool.

You will be wearing a buoyancy aid which will assist you in the water and all of our guides are qualified lifeguards, with you at all times to assist in the water.

What are the age limits?

Down arrow

Ages 12+ are welcome to join our open group Coasteering Adventures. Our private Family Coasteering Adventures are suitable for ages 8+.

You're never too old to get in the sea and have a go!

Will I be cold?

Down arrow

The water temperature in the Moray Firth ranges from 7-15°C. We find our high-quality 5mm thick winter wetsuits keep our customers toasty, as well as gloves, wetsuit socks, and hoods if needed. We've had no complaints! You should be warm and comfortable for the duration of your adventure with us.

How fit do you have to be to take part?

Down arrow
