Blue Coast Surf & Paddle acknowledges its role within the local community and its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults in our care. We are committed to ensuring that our safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, follows government guidance, and complies with best practice as well as the requirements of our governing bodies.
We recognise that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All employees, subcontractors, and volunteers are expected to understand their individual duties and ensure an appropriate and proportionate response to any safeguarding concerns or allegations. The owner of Blue Coast Surf & Paddle is the designated Safeguarding Lead / Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer (CWPO) and holds overall responsibility for the implementation of this policy.
Our Commitments
Blue Coast Surf & Paddle will:
• Promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
• Listen to and respect the views of children and young people, including their ideas for making activities safer and more enjoyable.
• Ensure all staff, subcontractors, and volunteers in regulated roles undergo a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG scheme) check to prevent the employment of unsuitable persons.
• Ensure all staff, subcontractors, and volunteers undergo Sport Scotland Child Wellbeing & Protection in Sport training (or equivalent).
• Ensure everyone understands their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding.
• Promote the sharing of relevant knowledge and arrange suitable training to improve individual understanding and awareness of safeguarding issues.
• Ensure appropriate action is taken in the event of incidents or concerns of abuse, and provide support to the individual(s) who raise or disclose a concern.
• Ensure that confidential, detailed, and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored.
• Ensure safeguarding practice is inclusive and free from discrimination, and that all participants are treated fairly regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, ability, religion, or sexual orientation.
• Share age-appropriate safeguarding resources with parents and young people joining programmes like our Nippers Kids Surf Club.
Review
This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis by the Safeguarding Lead / CWPO.
